Speaking in English can be a challenge and it takes time to improve your communication skills. However, there are some things you can do to make a difference more quickly. Here are a few tips you can try to improve your communication skills in English today.
Everyone forgets words sometimes, even native speakers! If you forget a word, don’t give up. Try describing it. What does it look like? What do you use it for? Where can you find it? For example, how would you describe a crayon? You draw with it. It can be many different colors. Children usually draw with it. How about describing things that don’t have a word in English? How would you describe mochi? It comes from Japan. It’s usually white and very chewy. There are many ways to describe a forgotten word so you can continue the conversation.
Gestures are a great way to communicate naturally, while helping you to express your thoughts. There are gestures to show size, direction, and even opinions about a variety of topics. To pick up some new gestures, try watching movies, TV shows, and online videos to imitate different styles used by people from a variety of English-speaking countries. Some gestures are universal but each country and local area also has their own unique gestures. Additionally, keep in mind that appropriate gestures can vary depending on the situation and person you’re talking to.
Many people think speaking fluently means talking quickly but this isn’t always true. If you talk too fast, it might make it harder for others to catch what you’re saying. Additionally, talking too quickly can make it harder for you to think clearly about what you would like to say. Instead of speaking quickly, slow down and break up the sentence into chunks. An easy way to break a sentence up is to pause before verbs. Use this sentence as an example:
This new plan will help us achieve our goals.
When we break up the sentence, it will look like this:
This new plan- will help us- achieve our goals.
So, there you have three easy ways to improve your communication skills in English. Remember that the key to improving communication is practice. With hard work and these tips, you can improve your communication skill in no time.
